Overview

  • SOD Ski Team is a group of likeminded, committed athletes wishing to pursue the sport of ski racing for the love of the sport and to see how far they can progress
  • SOD Ski Team program is a structured, year-round program with best-in-class coaching and robust programming to expose athletes to higher performance training on and off the hill
  • SOD clubs support the SODST with excellent training environments and facilities which allows coaches and athletes to maximize training and race opportunities for success


Objectives

  • Graduate athletes to the Ontario Ski Team/Ontario Development Ski Team and beyond
  • Provide best-in-class programming and coaching at home in SOD
  • Align with ACA LTAD Plan, Training and Competition Volumes and Focus (e.g., days on snow, ratio of training to race, competition planning) as well as ACA Gold Medal Pathway and Ski Development Matrix
  • Develop Academic support options for grade 11 and 12 athletes


Fundamentals

Coaching:

  • Best in Class coaching
  • Minimum one (1) full-time coach supported by assistant coaches
  • Coach to athlete ratio no greater than 1:6

On snow programming:

  • Maximize Daily Training Environments to accelerate skill development
  • Approximately 100-120 days on snow annually with summer and fall camp options
  • Approximately 24-34 Competitions with regional FIS focus and some international experience

Holistic Development

  • Focused on developing all aspects of the athlete based on Gold Medal Profile metrics (fitness, technical/tactical, mental/lifestyle, performance habits)


Head Coach – Curtis Eades

  • Curtis Eades has been coaching in Southern Ontario for the past 14 years.
  • Prior to working as the SOD Ski Team Head Coach, he spent 7 years as the U16 OCUP lead at Toronto Ski Club

Preparation Period

  • Fitness Testing Toronto or Collingwood
  • Conditioning – ongoing throughout the preparation period
  • August Camp: (optional/additional) – targeting Aug 13th – Sept 2nd in Chile/El Colorado
  • October Camp (optional/additional), October, Hintertux Austria

Competition Period Overview

  • 10 FIS races in the Collingwood area + 4 in Ottawa and 8 in Quebec (December and April)
  • Training January through March will be primarily in the Collingwood area, with targeted projects out of region to train GS/SG
  • Option extra starts from Dec – Mar

 


Program Cost

  • Estimated cost: $28,500 per athlete
  • Includes: November pre-season camp, mid-season Quebec/Ottawa series, end-of-season spring series Quebec/or West, fitness program, mental performance prep, access to one coach year-round
  • Does not include: flights, summer/fall camp, personal equipment, meals, FIS licence and SAIP insurance
  • There will be monthly optional race projects
